Job summary

Shropshire Council is seeking a Welfare Support Team Officer to join the Welfare Support Team in Shrewsbury. The role offers hybrid working with a 12-week contract and a pay rate of £15.31 per hour for 37 hours per week.

You will process Local Welfare Provision applications, gather evidence, and make informed decisions to help residents facing financial hardship. Experience in customer service or welfare is preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience in customer service, welfare, housing, financial assessment or administrative environments.
• Ability to handle sensitive conversations with professionalism and empathy.
• Strong organisational skills to manage a varied caseload and maintain accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Receive and process crisis and resilience funding applications via phone and digital channels.
• Gather evidence and assess eligibility against funding criteria.
• Make fair, transparent decisions and signpost to specialist services when needed.
• Maintain records using Dynamics, SharePoint and other internal systems.
