Job summary

Coleg Sir Gâr and Coleg Ceredigion is seeking a Welding Technician to join the Engineering Department at Graig Campus. The role focuses on safe operation of welding workshops, maintenance of MIG/TIG/MMA and oxy-acetylene equipment, and provision of essential technical support for teaching staff and students.

You will ensure health and safety compliance, maintain COSHH records, order consumables, and support course development in a collaborative learning environment.

Qualifications

• Relevant vocational qualification in welding
• GCSE English and Maths at least Grade C or equivalent
• IOSH Managing Safely or willingness to undertake training
• Health & Safety training or willingness to undertake training
• First Aid qualification or willingness to undertake training
• Recent experience in welding technical support
• Understanding of HE/FHE support roles
• Competence in using welding/cutting machinery
• Good communication and organisational skills
• Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
• Flexible and collaborative approach

Responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance and support for welding teaching and learning
• Maintain a clean, safe welding workshop in line with Health & Safety regulations
• Prepare and update Risk Assessments, COSHH records and Safe Systems of Work
• Maintain and service MIG, TIG, MMA and oxy-acetylene equipment
• Manage workshop stores and stock, and oversee consumables ordering
• Support course teams and curriculum meetings as required
• Assist with course promotion and publicising the programme
• Support lecturers and students during practical sessions
• Perform any other duties as directed by the Principal/CEO as required
