Job summary

Navantia UK is seeking a skilled welder to assemble heavy steel structures across naval, marine and repair projects. You will read drawings, interpret WPSs, and operate welding equipment including automation while maintaining safety and quality at all times.

Role requires certified weld qualifications ISO9606-1 and a proactive approach to teamwork, inspection, and problem solving in a busy shipyard environment.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of welding safety rules and best practices.
• Experience in heavy steel plate welding; apprenticeship or equivalent.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and technical documents.
• Familiarity with quality procedures and fabrication standards.
• Hold Fillet Welding Qualification (ISO9606-1).
• Hold Butt Welding Qualification (ISO9606-1).
• Able to work independently and with others; pass a trade test.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe working environment in line with safety procedures.
• Read and interpret weld symbols from fabrication drawings.
• Set up welding equipment and LEV systems, gas hoses and cables.
• Perform flat and positional welding per WPSs and best practices.
• Check welds for defects and grind profiles as needed.
• Use automated welding equipment as qualified.
