Job Description

Futures is seeking to appoint a Welding Shop Team Leader for a leading manufacturing company in South Yorkshire. The Welding Shop Team Leader will be responsible for guiding a team of welders to ensure projects are completed safely, accurately, and on time, while maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency. This role combines hands-on welding with team management responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of welders to meet daily production goals.
  2. Ensure all welding work complies with required specifications and standards.
  3. Allocate work, monitor progress, and adjust priorities based on production schedules.
  4. Perform welding tasks as needed to meet targets or train team members.
  5. Inspect welds and finished products for quality and accuracy; collaborate with Quality Assurance to resolve issues.
  6. Ensure adherence to safety protocols, PPE usage, and housekeeping standards.
  7. Communicate effectively with supervisors, engineering, and other departments to coordinate workflow and resolve issues.
  8. Support onboarding and training of new employees in welding techniques and company procedures.
  9. Track and report on daily production data, downtime, and material usage.
  10. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, 5S, Kaizen) to enhance operational efficiency.
  11. Maintain welding equipment, tools, and shop supplies; report maintenance needs promptly.

Qualifications:

  1. 5+ years of hands-on welding experience in a manufacturing environment.
  2. Proven leadership skills or prior experience in a supervisory role.
  3. Proficiency in MIG, TIG, and/or Stick welding techniques.
  4. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and technical drawings.
  5. Strong knowledge of weld quality standards, inspection techniques, and safety practices.
  6. Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  7. Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
