Job summary

WEC Group Training Academy (MTL Rotherham) is seeking an experienced Welder/Fabricator to join our Academy as a Welding Instructor based at our MTL advanced division. You will teach MIG and TIG welding, onboard apprentices, assess progress and provide feedback to support development. Enhanced DBS required; hours are 37.5 per week with Mon–Thu 7:30–16:00 and Fri 7:30–13:00.

Qualifications

  • Extensive hands-on MIG and TIG welding experience.
  • Experience in teaching, training or assessing is desirable.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver and support the Level 3 Plate Welder Apprenticeship Standard.
  • Provide onboarding for apprentices.
  • Teach welding and fabrication techniques with focus on safety.
  • Assess apprentice performance and give feedback.
  • Support apprentices through their learning journey.
  • Maintain training equipment and workshops to safety standards.
  • Promote a culture of excellence and development.

Salary: £21.00ph

Due to continued growth, we're looking for an experienced Welder/Fabricator to join our Academy as a Welding Instructor based at our MTL advanced division.

Previous teaching, training or assessing experience is desirable but not essential. If you're an experienced welder who enjoys helping others learn and would like to move into a training role, we'd love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver and support the Level 3 Plate Welder Apprenticeship Standard.
  • Provide a professional and engaging onboarding experience for new apprentices.
  • Teach a range of welding and fabrication techniques, with a focus on safe working practices.
  • Assess apprentice performance and provide constructive feedback to support continuous improvement.
  • Support apprentices throughout their learning journey, helping them build confidence and technical competence.
  • Maintain training equipment and workshop facilities to the highest standards of safety and efficiency.
  • Promote a positive learning culture that encourages excellence and continuous development.
About You

We're looking for someone with excellent practical welding experience who enjoys coaching and developing others.

You'll have:

  • Strong hands‑on experience in MIG and TIG welding.
  • A solid background in fabrication and the ability to interpret engineering drawings.
  • Excellent communication and mentoring skills.
  • The ability to motivate, coach and support apprentices of varying abilities.
  • A proactive approach with the confidence to work independently and use your own initiative.
  • A genuine passion for developing the next generation of engineers.

Please note: An Enhanced DBS check is required for this role. The cost will be covered by WEC Group.

Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week

  • Monday – Thursday: 7:30am – 4:00pm
  • Friday: 7:30am – 1:00pm
