Job summary

Aeropeople Limited in Glasgow is seeking a skilled Welder to join a leading defence and aerospace client on-site. You'll perform carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum welding across multiple processes in a busy shipbuilding environment.

The role involves working a varied shift pattern with opportunities for overtime and a comprehensive benefits package; you must hold SVQ3/Trade papers and demonstrate high-quality welds meeting NDE standards.

Qualifications

• Modern Apprenticeship certificate / Trade Papers required.
• SVQ3 or City & Guilds or equivalent mechanical qualifications.
• Experience in ceramic‑tile welding and various arc welding processes.
• Ability to produce welds meeting visual and NDE standards and to work safely.

Responsibilities

• Weld carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminium using MMA, MAG, MIG, FCAW and SAM processes.
• Produce high‑quality butt and fillet welds; include ceramic tile work where required.
• Self‑verify welds to ensure consistent quality and compliance with standards.
• Follow SHE procedures and manage fume control during welding activities.

Job description

Job Title: Welder

Salary: £40,016 per annum + shift allowance + overtime

Location: Glasgow

We currently have a vacancy to join one of the world’s leading, global defence, security and aerospace companies as a Welder. The role will be based in Glasgow and will require the successful candidate to be on site full time working a varied shift pattern (please see details below).

The company is at the forefront of designing and building world‑leading naval ships. Their work is vital to supporting the security and defence of nations around the globe and they pride themselves on delivering high‑quality and innovative solutions. As part of a growing team, they are looking for a talented and experienced Welder to join them in delivering eight Type 26 frigates to the Royal Navy.

Working in teams of 6‑12, you will apply SVQ Level 3 expertise to produce high quality, complex welding solutions that make a meaningful impact.

• Day Shift: Monday- Thursday 7.00am- 4.30pm
• Night Shift: Monday- Thursday 8.30pm- 6.00am
• Weekend Shift: Friday- Sunday 7am- 7.30pm

All successful candidates will be required to attend a Trade test which will be held in Glasgow.

You will also be required to submit your trade certificates after an initial phone call with our recruiter.

Main Responsibilities:

• Weld carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminium using MMA, MAG, MIG, FCAW and automatic/ semi‑automatic processes such as Submerged Arc and BUG‑O
• Produce high‑quality butt and fillet welds, including work using ceramic tiles within FCAW/ MAG processes
• Carry out self‑verification of all welds to maintain consistent quality and compliance with standards
• Follow safe working practices at all times, adhering to SHE requirements and applying effective fume‑control measures

• Overtime Pay rates are as follows: * Monday- Thursday: 1.33 (Time and a 3rd) * Friday: 1.5 (Time and a half for the first 4 hours and 2.00 (Double time) for any hours thereafter * Saturday: 1.5 (Time and a half) * Sunday: 2.00 (Double time)

About You:

• You are required to hold a Modern Apprenticeship certificate also known as Trade Papers (you will be required to provide these papers on application and in person) and relevant mechanical qualifications (e.g., SVQ3, City & Guilds, or equivalent)
• Ensure you are experienced in ceramic‑tile welding, Flux‑Cored Arc Welding, Metal‑Cored Arc Welding, and associated equipment
• Demonstrate your ability to produce welds that consistently meet visual and NDE examination standards
• You will be skilled in welding carbon‑steel materials within the 4–15 mm thickness range
• Show you have a good understanding of SHE requirements and applies risk‑assessment principles in all welding activities
• You will bring with you a background in maritime, construction, manufacturing, or similar environments, including MIG aluminium welding and automated welding systems
