Job summary

Aeropeople Ltd. seeks a Welder for a Glasgow on‑site role to join a major defence/aerospace client. You'll work a multi‑shift pattern with a 33% shift allowance for night and weekend shifts and overtime opportunities. Trade papers and SVQ3 or equivalent are required, with experience in MMA/MAG/MIG/FCAW welding and ceramic tiles.

Candidates will attend a trade test in Glasgow and must hold a British passport with 5 years UK residency. Competitive salary and pension/insurance benefits available.

Qualifications

• Hold a Modern Apprenticeship/Trade Papers (SVQ3 or equivalent)
• Experience in ceramic-tile welding, Flux‑Cored Arc Welding and Metal‑Cored Arc Welding
• Ability to produce welds meeting visual and NDE standards
• Experience welding carbon steel in 4–15 mm range
• Understand SHE requirements and apply risk assessment in welding activities
• Background in maritime, construction, manufacturing environments including MIG aluminium welding

Responsibilities

• Weld carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminium using MMA, MAG, MIG, FCAW and automatic/semi‑automatic processes
• Produce high‑quality butt and fillet welds, including ceramic tiles within FCAW/MAG
• Self‑verify welds to maintain quality and standards
• Follow safe working practices and SHE requirements
• Shift allowance of 33% on night and weekend shifts
• Overtime pay rates: Mon-Thu 1.33x, Fri 1.5-2.0x, Sat 1.5x, Sun 2.0x

Job description

Salary: £40,016 per annum + shift allowance + overtime

Location: Glasgow

We currently have a vacancy to join one of the world’s leading, global defence, security and aerospace companies as a Welder. The role will be based in Glasgow and will require the successful candidate to be on site full time working a varied shift pattern (please see details below).

The company is at the forefront of designing and building world-leading naval ships. Their work is vital to supporting the security and defence of nations around the globe and they pride themselves on delivering high-quality and innovative solutions. As part of a growing team, they are looking for a talented and experienced Welder to join them in delivering eight Type 26 frigates to the Royal Navy.

Working in teams of 6‑ 12, you will apply SVQ Level 3 expertise to produce high quality, complex welding solutions that make a meaningful impact.

There are 3 shifts available (although the successful candidate would start on a day shift and would then discuss with their manager if they would prefer a different shift) and the hours of work within each shift are highlighted below. Please note that both the night shift and the weekend shift will include a 33% shift allowance on top of the basic rate.

• Day Shift: Monday- Thursday 7.00am- 4.30pm
• Night Shift: Monday- Thursday 8.30pm- 6.00am

All successful candidates will be required to attend a Trade test which will be held in Glasgow. You will also be required to submit your trade certificates after an initial phone call with our recruiter.

Main Responsibilities:

• Weld carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminium using MMA, MAG, MIG, FCAW and automatic/ semi‑automatic processes such as Submerged Arc and BUG‑O
• Produce high‑quality butt and fillet welds, including work using ceramic tiles within FCAW/ MAG processes
• Carry out self‑verification of all welds to maintain consistent quality and compliance with standards
• Follow safe working practices at all times, adhering to SHE requirements and applying effective fume‑control measures
• Shift allowance of 33% on both night and weekend shifts
• Overtime Pay rates are as follows:
• Monday- Thursday: 1.33 (Time and a 3rd)
• Friday: 1.5 (Time and a half for the first 4 hours and 2.00 (Double time) for any hours thereafter
• Saturday: 1.5 (Time and a half)
• Sunday: 2.00 (Double time)

About You:

• You are required to hold a Modern Apprenticeship certificate also known as Trade Papers (you will be required to provide these papers on application and in person) and relevant mechanical qualifications (e.g., SVQ3, City & Guilds, or equivalent)
• Ensure you are experienced in ceramic‑tile welding, Flux‑Cored Arc Welding, Metal‑Cored Arc Welding, and associated equipment
• Demonstrate your ability to produce welds that consistently meet visual and NDE examination standards
• You will be skilled in welding carbon‑steel materials within the 4–15 mm thickness range
• Show you have a good understanding of SHE requirements and applies risk‑assessment principles in all welding activities
• You will bring with you a background in maritime, construction, manufacturing, or similar environments, including MIG aluminium welding and automated welding systems

Due to the nature of our client’s business you must hold a British passport and have lived and worked in the UK for the past 5 years
