Job summary

Babcock is seeking a Welder Trainer to deliver and assess welding training for military trainees at MOD Lyneham, Wiltshire. You will move from production to a training-focused role, coaching and guiding learners to meet Defence engineering standards.

The position requires supervisory experience, strong communication, and the ability to maintain accurate records while ensuring safety in training environments. On-site, full-time hours apply.

Qualifications

• Previous supervisory experience in welding/fabrication/engineering/manufacturing.
• Strong communication skills to support and develop others.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to organise workloads and maintain accurate records.
• Must be able to obtain an Enhanced DBS check.

Responsibilities

• Deliver welding and fabrication training to military trainees, including practical and classroom sessions.
• Prepare and maintain lesson plans, training materials, assessments and learning resources.
• Assess trainee performance, provide feedback and additional support as needed.
• Maintain accurate trainee records, reports and training documentation.
• Ensure workshops, equipment and training environments are safe, compliant and fit for purpose.

The role

As a Welder, you'll deliver, assess, and continuously improve welding and fabrication training for military trainees, ensuring they develop the skills, knowledge, and behaviours needed to meet Defence engineering standards.

This role offers the chance to move away from commercial production environments and into a rewarding training position where your expertise will directly contribute to the development of future military engineers.

Day-to-day, you will be required to:

• Deliver practical and classroom-based welding and fabrication training using a range of welding techniques.
• Prepare and maintain lesson plans, training materials, assessments, and learning resources.
• Assess trainee performance, providing constructive feedback and additional support where required.
• Maintain accurate trainee records, reports, and training documentation.
• Ensure workshops, equipment, and training environments remain safe, compliant, and fit for purpose.

This role is full time working 37 hours per week and is based on site at MOD Lyneham, Wiltshire.

Essential experience of the Welder:

• Previous supervisory experience within a welding, fabrication, engineering, or manufacturing environment.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to support and develop others.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to organise workloads and maintain accurate records.
• Ability to obtain an Enhanced DBS check.

Qualifications for the Welder:

• Welding-related apprenticeship and/or a recognised Level 3 qualification in Welding, Fabrication, or a related discipline.
• Full UK Driving Licence would be advantageous.
• Instructional or assessor qualifications are desirable but not essential, as training may be provided.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) / Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
