Job summary

Safran Engineering Services in the UK seeks a Weights Engineer to support aerospace cabin interior activities. You will set weight targets, drive weight reduction, and manage data using CATIA V5, Excel and Mathcad.

The role requires a 2:1 degree in engineering, 3+ years in aerospace/related sectors, and strong reporting and liaison skills within an integrated project team. Hybrid working in Cwmbran is offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (2:1) in Mechanical, Aerospace or Structural Engineering or equivalent.
• Min 3 years' experience in Aerospace/Automotive/Rail, preferably design of composites or metallic components.
• Excellent knowledge of Aerospace Cabin Interior Systems (Galleys, Seats).
• Excellent knowledge of CATIA V5 for weights analysis.
• Proficiency in weights analysis standards and hand calculations using Excel/Mathcad.

Responsibilities

• Define product weight targets in support of product conception.
• Define product sub assembly weight targets to enable a weight driven design process.
• Prepare and review weights data via hand calculations using Excel/Mathcad.
• Prepare and review weights data via CAD analysis using CATIA V5.
• Increase weights data confidence by driving physical weighing of parts early.
• Liaise with senior members to ensure tasks are completed on time.
• Identify weight issues and assist in weight reduction opportunities.
• Prepare and review weights reports as per weights plan.
• Prepare and review weight reduction plans when required.
• Liaise with Design, Certification, Stress external suppliers, customers, airframers, regulatory bodies.

Job description

In order to develop and expand the capabilities of Safran Engineering Services in the UK, we are looking to recruit a Weights Engineer to support developments of Aerospace Cabin interior activities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Define product weight targets in support of product conception.
• Define product sub assembly weight targets in order to enable a weight driven product design process.
• Prepare and review weights data in support of product conception and early development via the use of hand calculations using such toolsets as Excel or Mathcad.
• Prepare and review weights data in support of detailed product development and design modifications via the interrogation of CAD (Catia V5).
• Responsible for increasing weights data confidence by driving the process of the physical weighing of parts and utilisation of physical weight data at the earliest possible availability
• Manages self and liaises with senior members of the weights and project teams to ensure tasks are completed to requirements on time.
• Identify weight issues and assist in identifying weight reduction opportunities and provide support in any subsequent weight reduction activities
• Prepare and review weights reports in accordance with the weights plan.
• When required prepare and review weights reduction plans.
• Liaise with Design, Certification, Stress external suppliers, customers, airframers, regulatory bodies.
  
  

Requirements

• 2:1 Bachelors (Honours) degree or equivalent in Mechanical / Aerospace / Structural Engineering, or HND/HNC qualifications.
• Min 3 years experience within Aerospace / Automotive / Rail sector, preferably in Design of composites and/or metallic components
• Excellent knowledge of Aerospace Cabin Interior Systems (Galleys, Seats,..)
• Excellent knowledge of CATIA V5 for weights analysis
• Proficiency in weights analysis standards, hand calculations using Microsoft Excel and/or Mathcad.
• Awareness of A/C industry standards, regulations and qualification requirements
• Experience with Design Engineering competencies, behaviours and skills, including organisational and planning skills to meet deadlines.
• Customer focused/Ability to establish credibility with internal and external customers
• Ability to prepare and review concise technical reports and presentations.
• Ability to work effectively within an integrated project team
• Excellent spoken and written English

• Experience with GD&T, (tolerance stack up)
• Good experience of aerospace Composite (honeycomb) /Metallic materials and manufacturing processes
• Understanding of stress principles
