Job summary

Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust is seeking a Housekeeper (food service) in the Patient Services Department for weekend shifts. The role involves ward-level catering, preparing and delivering meal trolleys, assisting nursing staff with portioning and plating, and maintaining ward kitchens with uniform provided.

Training is provided; a DBS check is required. Availability for Saturday and Sunday shifts 06:30–13:30 is essential. First-class training and NHS pension options may be offered.

Responsibilities

• Clean and prepare ward food trolleys for meal service and deliver them to wards
• Assist nursing staff at mealtimes with portioning and plating food from trolleys
• Serve patient meals and beverages, wash up and clean the ward kitchen
• Carry out catering tasks such as making toast
• Prepare and deliver ward stores and supplies to wards and departments
• Store cleaning chemicals, consumables, dry and refrigerated food and equipment safely
• Dispose of and package clinical and household waste safely
• Report faults in electrical equipment and building fabric to the relevant team
• Complete working schedules, log sheets, sign-in and sign-out sheets and other paperwork accurately and on time
• Follow Healthcare Associated Infection guidance to protect safety
• Maintain confidentiality and courteous behaviour at all times
• Participate in Performance and Development Reviews and follow Trust policies
• Work in other facilities areas on occasion after training and support
