Job summary

Hillier Nurseries Limited is seeking a friendly Garden Centre Assistant to join our team at weekends at Hillier Garden Centre in Chichester. The role involves helping customers, giving plant and product advice, and keeping the centre tidy and well-stocked.

It is a permanent weekend position with 6 hours per week on Sundays. The hourly rate is up to £12.71, with pay aligned to National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage requirements.

Qualifications

• Weekend availability, especially Sundays, with potential extra hours.
• Interest in plants or gardening and customer service experience preferred.
• Willing to work across the garden centre and support restaurant/café as needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide excellent customer service and answer queries.
• Advise on plants and gardening products.
• Maintain plant health through watering, pruning and pest checks.
• Replenish, price, rotate and display stock to standards.
• Process payments accurately and handle cash/card transactions.
• Support stock control including deliveries and wastage reductions.
• Promote the Hillier Gardening Club to customers.
• Keep the centre, customer areas and facilities clean and safe.
• Report health and safety hazards.
• Support the garden centre restaurant on ad-hoc basis when required.
