Job summary

Thatcham-based Thornford Park Hospital is seeking a Weekend Chef to join the kitchen team. You’ll support the Head Chef in daily operations, prepare meals to high standards, and cater for service users, staff and visitors, including events and conferences.

You’ll manage menus, costing, stock, and ensure adherence to safety standards. The role emphasizes creativity within a hospital setting, with weekend shifts (Sat/Sun) and potential job share, plus benefits like free shuttle from Thatcham

Qualifications

• GCSE or equivalent English.
• City & Guilds 706/1 and 2 (or equivalent) Basic Food Preparation Cooking.
• Basic Food Hygiene (essential).
• Intermediate Food Hygiene (desirable).
• Previous experience in a similar environment.
• Menu planning, costing, ordering, stock control and budget experience.

Responsibilities

• Support the Head Chef for day-to-day running of the kitchen.
• Prepare, plan and cook meals to a high standard, accommodating dietary requests.
• Serve meals to service users, staff and visitors in a professional manner.
• Participate in food costing and budget control.
• Adhere to Safer Food Better Business standards and HACCP.
• Take full shift responsibility for the catering operation.
• Research and create new menus that meet healthy eating guidelines.
