Job summary

Dalston, Carlisle-based Sodexo part-time chef role focusing on delivering high-quality meals in a busy catering environment. You will prepare and serve meals, manage stock, ensure hygiene, and support service standards across shifts.

The role requires an NVQ Level 2 Chef qualification or equivalent and prior cook/chef experience. Strong teamwork, food safety knowledge, and IT skills with Microsoft Office are beneficial. Training and development opportunities are provided.

Qualifications

• 706/2, NVQ Level 2 Chef qualification or equivalent.
• Experience working as a Cook or Chef within a busy catering environment.
• Experience supporting or overseeing a catering service and working effectively with a team.
• Good knowledge of food hygiene, food safety and Health & Safety requirements.
• Experience with stock control, ordering and managing food costs.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, cook and serve high-quality meals, ensuring food is presented to a consistently high standard.
• Take responsibility for the smooth running of the catering service during your shifts, ensuring agreed service standards are achieved.
• Provide a friendly and professional service, helping to create a great experience for customers.
• Plan and organise food preparation and service to ensure everything is ready on time.
• Take responsibility for ordering goods and maintaining appropriate stock levels.
• Manage stock effectively, including stock rotation, portion control and reducing food waste.
• Support the achievement of food cost and margin targets while maintaining excellent quality.
• Ensure the kitchen, food preparation and storage areas are clean, organised and secure.
• Follow all food hygiene, Health & Safety, fire safety and safe working procedures.
• Maintain accurate food safety and compliance records and support the achievement of required audit standards.
• Ensure allergen and food safety requirements are followed throughout food preparation and service.
• Support and guide catering colleagues during your shift, helping the team deliver a consistently high standard of service.
• Respond positively to customer feedback and look for opportunities to improve the catering service.
• Use company systems and Microsoft Office where required to complete records and administration.
• Maintain high standards of personal hygiene and professional appearance.
• Support other areas of the catering operation when required and undertake relevant training to continue developing your skills.
