Job summary

Sodexo Group is seeking a Weekend Food Service Assistant in Dalston, Carlisle. This part-time role covers Friday, Saturday and Sunday shifts, offering 23 hours per week and a pay of £13.45 per hour. You will prepare, cook and serve meals, ensuring safety, hygiene and excellent service.

You will work to specific menus, support colleagues, manage stock, and maintain high standards of food safety and quality in a fast-paced workplace dining environment.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working as a Cook, Chef or similar in a busy catering environment.
• NVQ Level 2, City & Guilds 706/2 or equivalent.
• Confidence preparing and cooking meals independently.
• Good knowledge of food safety, hygiene and allergen requirements.
• Ability to take responsibility for a shift and support other catering team members.
• Good organisational and communication skills, flexible approach.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, cook and serve a range of fresh, tasty and well-presented meals.
• Take responsibility for the smooth running of the catering operation during your shift.
• Ensure food is prepared and served safely and in line with menus and service standards.
• Maintain high standards of food hygiene and safety at all times.
• Complete required food safety and due diligence documentation.
• Follow allergen procedures and dietary requirements accurately.
• Organise and prioritise food preparation to ensure service runs smoothly.
• Support and guide other catering colleagues.
• Monitor food quality, presentation and portion control.
• Help manage stock levels and store ingredients correctly.
• Minimise food waste and use ingredients efficiently.
• Keep the kitchen clean, organised and safe during shifts.
• Follow Health & Safety, Food Safety and company procedures.
• Report faults or concerns with kitchen equipment.
• Deliver friendly and professional service to customers.
• Support other areas of catering when required.

• Deliver friendly and professional service to customers.
• Support other areas of the catering operation when required.

What you'll bring:

• Previous experience working as a Cook, Chef or similar within a busy catering environment.
• A relevant catering qualification such as NVQ Level 2, City & Guilds 706/2 or equivalent.
• Confidence preparing and cooking meals independently.
• Good knowledge of food safety, hygiene and allergen requirements.
• The confidence to take responsibility for a shift and support other members of the catering team.
• Good organisational skills with the ability to manage priorities during busy periods.
• A positive, reliable and flexible approach.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• The ability to work independently while remaining part of the wider catering team.

Previous experience within workplace catering, contract catering, manufacturing or a similar operational environment would be advantageous.
