Job summary

University of Bedfordshire is seeking a detail-oriented Web Assistant to manage new course uploads and ensure accurate, engaging content across the website based in Luton. You will work with academic departments to gather content and imagery, update pages via Umbraco CMS and align with templates and SEO best practices.

Collaborating with the Marketing team and Copywriter, you will conduct regular audits, fix broken links, ensure accessibility and GDPR compliance, and train staff on CMS usage

Qualifications

Job description

We are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive individual to manage the process of uploading new courses and ensuring all course information is accurate, engaging, and up to date on our website. This role involves working closely with academic departments to gather content and imagery, updating courses via the Umbraco CMS in line with templates and SEO best practices, and collaborating with our Copywriter to produce clear, consistent, and on-brand content. You will conduct regular audits to maintain quality, fix issues such as broken links or outdated information, and ensure compliance with accessibility standards, GDPR, and CMA regulations. The role also includes maintaining a central repository of course assets, training academic staff on basic CMS usage, and monitoring page performance to inform future improvements. Additionally, you'll work with the Recruitment team to align web content with prospectus materials and open day promotions, as well as support other digital updates and projects as required by the Web Editor or Head of Web and Digital Marketing.

Context

To support the Web Editor in maintaining the accuracy, relevance, and timeliness of the University of Bedfordshire's website content, with a focus on managing new course uploads and ensuring seamless integration into the website feed. The Web Assistant will work collaboratively with academic departments and the Marketing team to gather, create, and publish course-related content, ensuring compliance with university standards and accessibility guidelines. The post holder will also update information and content for wider university departments where appropriate. Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines are essential.

Principal Accountabilities
  1. Manage the new course upload process, including liaising with academic departments to ensure timely submission of course information, copy, and imagery.
  2. Ensure all new and updated courses are accurately added to the website feed using the Umbraco Content Management System (CMS), adhering to predefined templates and SEO best practices.
  3. Work with the University's Copywriter to write, edit, or source course-related content where required, ensuring clarity, consistency, and alignment with the university's tone of voice.
  4. Conduct regular audits of course pages to identify and resolve issues such as broken links, outdated information, or missing assets.
  5. Support the Web Editor in quality‑checking content for accuracy, accessibility (e.g., alt-text for images), and compliance with GDPR and CMA regulations.
  6. Maintain a central repository of course-related documents, images, and metadata for easy access by the Marketing and Communications team.
  7. Assist in training academic staff on basic CMS usage for course updates, providing ongoing support as needed.
  8. Monitor and report on page performance, including user engagement metrics, to inform future improvements.
  9. Collaborate with the Recruitment team to ensure the website information aligns with prospectus materials and open day promotions.
  10. Maintain a good knowledge of social media and influencing channels and the latest trends in order to recommend appropriate channels and approach.
  11. Implement social media communications ensuring they reflect the University of Bedfordshire's brand, key messages and provide the most accurate and up to date information. Some scheduling and posting may be required outside normal business hours.
  12. Attend and support University Events including open days which may occur outside business hours.
  13. Undertake such other duties as may reasonably be required by the Director of Marketing and Communications or Department Heads in line with the seniority and scope of this role.
