Job summary

Kier Group in Salford is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join the MEICA team, delivering mechanical design solutions across water and wastewater infrastructure.

The role requires Chartered Engineer status, extensive experience in hydraulic design and pumping systems, and a strong commitment to SHE standards.

You'll work with a cross-disciplinary team to ensure designs meet industry standards and client specifications, contributing to innovative and compliant project delivery.

Qualifications

• Chartered Engineer with membership of an appropriate Professional Body (IET or IMechE)
• Extensive experience in water, wastewater or process industries, including hydraulic design and pumping systems
• Strong problem solving and decision making with understanding of SHE requirements
• Ability to interpret information and data, patterns, trends to inform decisions
• Able to pass the BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) requirements

Responsibilities

• Producing detailed mechanical designs for pumping stations, treatment works, and network assets for potable water and wastewater applications
• Preparing and agreeing mechanical design requirements from the client’s remit, ensuring it is fully understood
• Providing support for mechanical design including feasibility studies, outline design, production and evaluation of concepts focused on buildability, efficiency, and innovation
• Ensuring designs comply with UK water industry standards (WIMES), British Standards, Water Regulations, CDM 2015 and client specifications
• Working collaboratively with civil, electrical and process engineers to ensure integrated, efficient asset design
