Job summary

Portsmouth Water is seeking a skilled Process Operator to operate, control and monitor machinery at our sites across Hampshire and West Sussex. This role involves outdoor work, at height, in confined spaces and an on-call standby rota (approximately every 1 in 4 weeks).

You will monitor treatment processes, collect data on water quality and asset performance, and operate chemical dosing and storage while meeting safety and environmental standards.

Qualifications

• GCSE English, Maths and a Science subject at least Level 4 or above (or Level 2 Functional Skills).
• Demonstrates attention to detail with effective analytical skills.
• Independent and critical thinker with troubleshooting ability.
• Accountable, collaborative and willing to share knowledge with others.

Responsibilities

• Visit water treatment works, pumping stations and reservoirs to monitor performance and operability.
• Collect data on water quality and asset performance; record routine activities.
• Operate and maintain treatment assets; monitor and interpret water samples.
• Manage chemical dosing, coagulation, flocculation, filtration, disinfection and storage processes.
• Monitor surrounding areas for activities affecting water sources.
• Ensure site appearance, cleanliness and operation meet company standards and water quality.
