Job summary

Balfour Beatty VINCI is a joint venture delivering HS2 infrastructure in the Midlands, with a Birmingham-based Environmental role. You will support the environmental and sustainability team, handling groundwater risk assessments, monitoring plans and data QA/QC for site works.

The position requires a relevant degree (geology, geography or environmental science) and a willingness to coordinate with sublots, contractors and regulatory stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Relevant degree or experience e.g. geology, geography, or environmental science.
• Higher degree in contaminated land, engineering geology, environmental science, hydrogeology or similar is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Instrumental in the production of Quarterly Reports for Consents.
• Reviewing of required consented and permitted monitoring.
• QA/QC of data collection and documents.
• Liaising with sublot Water Specialist / Environment Managers during incident responses
• Specialist input into site specific monitoring plans
• Specialist input into site specific groundwater risk assessments
• Liaising with sub-contractors to ensure GW monitoring requirements are met and for installation and maintenance of still wells.
• Undertaking other reasonable duties appropriate to the role and in support of the wider environment / water team

Job description

HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Location:

Based in Birmingham - the Central Region runs from the east of Birmingham into the city centre, comprising Sublot Delta, 1B, 4 and 5S. More than 50% of the structures within IPT Area North are located in the Central Region. This region, which covers a complex urban environment, also includes the 3.5 mile twin bore Bromford Tunnel. It also includes Interchange Station, as well as crossing three major highways (A45, M6 and M42).

• Instrumental in the production of Quarterly Reports for Consents.
• Work with BC ensure all document are compliant and uploaded to BC and EB.
• Work with the environmental and sustainability team to deliver documents (Quarterly Reports, Ground water Risk Assessment, Acrylamide Use, Monitoring Plans).
• Reviewing of required consented and permitted monitoring.
• QA/QC of data collection and documents.
• Submission of water monitoring data to BBV (Sublot Environmental Teams and Water specialist) and Stakeholders (the Environmental Agency. DJV, and HS2)
• Liaising with sublot Water Specialist / Environment Managers during incident responses
• Specialist input into site specific monitoring plans
• Specialist input into site specific groundwater risk assessments
• Liaising with specialist teams for drilling new monitoring wells.
• Liaising with sub-contractors to ensure GW monitoring requirements are met and for installation and maintenance of still wells.
• Undertaking other reasonable duties appropriate to the role and in support of the wider environment / water team
• Relevant degree or experience e.g. geology, geography, or environmental science.
• A higher degree in contaminated land, engineering geology, environmental science, hydrogeology or similar, is desirable.
• Understanding of the benefits of working collaboratively to problem solve and obtain the best outcome.
• Good IT skills and confident in the use of Office applications – Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
• Full driving licence.
• Confidence with excel/data.
• An understanding of environmental legislation and principles of environmental management systems 140001; ability to work as part of the team to ensure compliance
