Job summary

United Infrastructure is seeking a Water Service & Mains Laying Teams Operative to join our Washington team. You will be responsible for installing mains and services to required standards as part of a busy main contractor environment.

Key duties include excavating using safe methods, installing pipes and fittings, maintaining safety and environmental records, and operating company vehicles and mobile plant in accordance with health and road-use rules.

Qualifications

• National Water Hygiene registration (EUSR) is required.
• NRSWA Units 1-3 minimum.
• CSCS card and related safety certifications.
• Cat & Genny and 360 operators tickets.
• First aid qualification desirable.

Responsibilities

• Maintain health and safety on site and ensure compliance with environmental rules.
• Carry out safety checks and inspections on vehicles, plant, equipment and sites.
• Excavate holes using safe digging methods to avoid underground damage.
• Install pipes and fittings to required standards with proper jointing and hygiene practices.
• Drive company vehicles and operate mobile plant for authorised work.
• Maintain tidiness and security of site, vehicle, plant and equipment.

Purpose:

To be responsible for the installation of mains and services to required standards.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain own and others health and safety
• Carry out safety checks and inspections to vehicles, plant, equipment and sites as instructed
• Follow health and hygiene rules
• Ensure that work is undertaken with due regard to the environment: prevent contamination to water supplies and water courses; maintain site cleanliness; prevent spills; minimise disturbance to members of the public; avoid damage to trees; dispose of waste only as authorised.
• Excavate holes using safe digging methods to avoid damage to underground utility apparatus
• Manhandle materials, plant and equipment
• Install pipes and fittings to the appropriate standards ensuring, in particular, that good jointing and hygiene practices are followed
• Drive Company vehicles with due regard to the Road Traffic Act and other road users for authorised business purposes
• Operate mobile plant for authorised business purposes
• Maintain site, vehicle, plant and equipment tidiness and security
• Install and maintain road works to ‘Chapter 8’ standard
• Assist members of the public, clients’ representatives and other officials in relation to Company business
• Maintain safety, environmental and quality records
• Report any accidents, near misses, faults, damages or defects using appropriate documentation
• Undertake any other reasonable instructions given by management or supervision
