Job summary

Fylde Council is recruiting a Waste Collection Labourer to join the Waste Operations team on a temporary basis starting January 2028. The role involves outdoor, physically demanding work across refuse, recycling, street cleansing, and beach cleaning, with a professional approach when dealing with the public.

You will support routine collections, vehicle checks, and operate as part of a tight-knit crew to maintain high service standards for residents and businesses in the borough.

Qualifications

• Strong work ethic and willingness to perform physically demanding duties.
• Good fitness level with ability to walk long distances and lift regularly.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Reliable, punctual and safety-focused approach.
• Team player who can also work on own initiative.
• Good communication skills and positive attitude with the public.

Responsibilities

• Collect household and commercial waste and recycling across the borough.
• Safely load refuse vehicles using lifting equipment and approved procedures.
• Return bins, boxes, and containers correctly without causing obstruction.
• Carry out contamination checks on recycling where required.
• Assist the driver with safe reversing and manoeuvring.
• Support daily vehicle checks and help keep vehicles clean and operational.
• Carry out litter picking, sweeping and general street cleansing duties.
• Work on the beach and in open spaces to maintain cleanliness.
• Assist with removal of fly-tipped waste, including hazardous materials when required.
