Job summary

Kirklees Council is recruiting for a frontline refuse collection role. You will collect waste from households and businesses, work with others to resolve issues, and support less experienced staff while adhering to safety rules and procedures.

You may also perform other cleaning duties such as snow clearing or gritting as needed and participate in ongoing training to improve skills and qualifications.

Qualifications

• Experience of physically demanding work.
• Able to walk long distances outdoors in all weathers.
• Numeracy and literacy to complete basic paperwork.
• Ability to defuse conflict and communicate with customers.
• Willingness to work flexible patterns including some public holidays.
• Willingness to undertake training including banksman training.

Responsibilities

• Collect refuse and trade waste from households and businesses.
• Work collaboratively to deliver services and identify problems with waste.
• Provide support to less experienced staff on operational matters.
• Work safely and follow procedures for collection, loading, lifting and handling.
• Dispose of waste in line with service standards.
• Highlight problems affecting service delivery and undertake other cleaning duties as required (e.g., cleaning, snow clearing, gritting, site clear‑ups).
