Job summary

DFDS in Grimsby is hiring a Warehouse Operative to support day-to-day operations in a busy fresh fish warehouse. You will work a 4 on 4 off shift 07:00–19:00, handling stock movements, forklift tasks and paperwork across multiple areas of the business.

The role requires a valid forklift licence and experience in a chilled warehouse environment. You will be a reliable team player, able to learn from colleagues and contribute to daily targets while maintaining safety standards.

Qualifications

• Valid forklift licence required.
• Previous forklift experience in a chilled warehouse environment preferred.
• Good numeracy and basic reading/writing ability.
• Strong attention to detail when handling paperwork and operating equipment.

Responsibilities

• Allocate stock to customer orders and move/stack boxes of fresh fish.
• Build, wrap and move pallets using manual handling equipment and warehouse systems.
• Complete allocation records, product weight paperwork and intake/outload documentation.
• Carry out pre-use MHE checks and safely load/unload trailers and vehicles.
• Maintain high standards of health, safety and warehouse housekeeping.
• Support picking, coldstore and other operational areas as needed.
• Assist with warehouse cleaning and ramp/deep cleaning tasks.

Are you looking for a position in which you keep things moving and deliver when it matters most? If so, then you could be the newest addition to our team as a Warehouse Operative in our Grimsby depot.

About The Role

Working a 4 on 4 off shift pattern (07:00–19:00), you'll support the day-to-day operation of a busy fresh fish warehouse, ensuring stock is handled accurately, safely, and efficiently. This is a hands-on role involving stock movements, forklift operations, paperwork completion, and supporting warehouse activities across multiple areas of the business.

You Will Be Responsible For

• Allocating stock to customer orders and moving or stacking boxes of fresh fish
• Building, wrapping, and moving pallets both physically and through warehouse systems
• Completing allocation records, product weight paperwork, and intake/outload documentation
• Carrying out pre-use MHE checks and safely loading and unloading trailers and rigid vehicles
• Maintaining high standards of health, safety, and warehouse housekeeping
• Supporting picking, coldstore, and other operational areas when required
• Assisting with warehouse cleaning activities, including deep cleaning of work areas and loading ramps

About You

A valid forklift licence and previous forklift experience within a chilled warehouse environment are essential for this role. Experience using mobile loading ramps would be beneficial but is not essential. You'll have good numeracy skills and basic reading and writing ability, along with strong attention to detail when handling paperwork and operating MHE equipment.

You'll thrive in this role if you're a reliable team player who is willing to learn from experienced colleagues and contribute positively to the wider operation. You'll be confident working independently on your own tasks while supporting the team to achieve daily targets. A strong work ethic, flexible attitude, and willingness to work additional shifts when required will help you succeed.

This role is ideal for someone looking to develop your career within DFDS and who is comfortable working in a chilled (0–4°C), wet warehouse environment. Powered Pallet Truck experience would be advantageous, and a willingness to go the extra mile for colleagues and customers alike will set you apart.
