Job summary

British Heart Foundation in Straiton is seeking a Warehouse Assistant to support our fast-paced furniture stores. You’ll sort and prepare donations, move furniture, and help keep the shop floor stocked while contributing to life-saving research.

The role is full-time 35 hours per week, requires flexibility to work weekends and bank holidays on a rota, and involves manual handling. You’ll join a supportive team committed to sustainability and community impact.

Qualifications

  • Retail experience isn’t essential; a neat, organised applicant is welcome.
  • Confident in working within a team and guiding volunteers.
  • Works well under pressure and on own initiative in a fast-paced environment.
  • Reliable with high attention to detail and able to perform manual handling.

Responsibilities

  • Sort, check and prepare donated items for sale.
  • Move and organise deliveries of furniture and appliances arriving in stores.
  • Keep the shop floor well stocked and tidy stockrooms.
  • Follow safety regulations and promote wellbeing in all tasks.
  • Identify unsaleable items for recycling and support the reuse agenda.

Look no further - join us as a Warehouse Assistant in Straiton

The role is full time for 35 hours a week in one of our busy furniture stores. Our stores are fast-paced and trade 7 days a week. This role requires flexibility to work weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis.

Candidate must be fully flexible to work across 7 days per week including Weekends and Bank Holidays.

What does this role involve?

As a Stockroom Assistant, you’ll be at the heart of our retail operation by sorting, checking and making the most out of the variety of donations we receive behind the scenes. This is not just a standing behind the till or filling shelves type of job. Join a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same and everyone works as a team to fund life-saving research.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Organising donated items and preparing them for sale / Handling and moving the delivery of furniture and appliances that arrive in our stores
  • Ensuring the shop floor is always well stocked
  • Working in line with safety regulations and promoting health, safety and wellbeing in everything you do
  • Identifying unsaleable donations for recycling
  • Keeping the stockroom organised and tidy

Please note, this role can be physical demanding and moving a high volume of donation bags / involves lifting large pieces of furniture.

You will be given lots of autonomy in your role and will strive to continually build your knowledge of BHF.

What are we looking for?
  • Previous retail experience isn’t essential. If you’re an avid collector who likes to keep things neat and tidy, then we’d like to hear from you!
  • You’ll be confident working within a team and able to guide the activity of volunteers
  • You’ll work well under pressure and on your own initiative in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Attention to detail in everything you do
  • Comfortable with a high level of hands on manual work that involves moving large items/volumes of stock
