Job summary

Practice Plus Group in Bristol is seeking a Ward Porter to support safe patient and goods transfers across the hospital. The role is full-time (37.5 hours) with a flexible shift pattern between 7am and 9pm.

You will accompany patients to theatre and recovery, assist with moving equipment and oxygen cylinders, and help maintain a clean, safe environment. A caring, clear communicator with basic education and a year of relevant experience is welcomed, alongside a commitment to health and safety.

Qualifications

  • Good standard of basic education.
  • 1 year in a similar position/caring background.
  • Moving and handling of patients.
  • Knowledge of health and safety requirements with regard to storage of oxygen etc.

Responsibilities

  • Safely transfer patients and accompany them to theatre, recovery and transport on discharge.
  • Move and handle patients and equipment; communicate clearly with patients and staff.
  • Assist with transfer of goods: accept deliveries, store boxes, remove rubbish.
  • Assist with medical gas management and oxygen cylinder handling; follow safety guidelines.

About The Role

Ward Porter

Emersosn Green, Bristol.

  • £24,784.50 per year
  • Full-time 37.5 hours per week
  • 25 days annual leave +Bank holidays

Hours: Flexible shift pattern between 7am and 9pm.

To provide the safe and efficient transfer of patients and goods around the Hospital as required and to work as part of the Hospital Team to provide a safe and caring environment in line with patients needs

  • To accompany patients to and from the theatre and recovery, radiology department and down to transport on discharge.
  • The post holder will be in constant contact with patients, relatives, staff and visitors; many of whom will be worried and apprehensive. A porter must be able to communicate in a clear and precise manner, as the transfer of accurate information is essential to patient safety and the smooth running of the department.

The Ward Porter will also be actively involved with following:

Transfer of Goods
  • To accept deliveries, ensure boxes are stored appropriately and rubbish removed.
Medical Gas Management
  • Assist with the maintenance and use of CD size Oxygen cylinders on the ward; exchanging empty cylinders when full, checking for leaks and rectifying problems.
  • Follow Health and Safety guidelines, ensuring that cylinders are transported safely and stored securely in the designated bed holder, wheelchair holder or trolley.
