Job summary

One Ashford Hospital, part of Phoenix Hospital Group, is seeking a Porter to join our Hotel Services team on hours as and when required. You will support patient transfers, admissions, discharges and hospital operations to ensure a smooth, safe experience for patients, visitors and staff.

The role emphasises patient-focused service, teamwork and the ability to stay calm in a busy environment. GCSE or equivalent is desirable; experience in health and safety and waste management is advantageous.

Qualifications

  • Experience working in a hospital or patient-focused environment.
  • Experience working face-to-face with patients.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to manage and prioritise your own workload.
  • The ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
  • A friendly, supportive and collaborative approach to teamwork.
  • A GCSE or equivalent qualification is desirable but not essential.
  • Knowledge of health and safety and waste management within a hospital environment would also be advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Support the day-to-day running of the hospital.
  • Welcoming and admitting patients to the ward and helping them familiarise themselves with their room and facilities.
  • Supporting the safe transfer of patients between departments, including post-operative transfers and journeys to imaging.
  • Assisting with patient discharges.
  • Providing non-clinical support as part of the hospital crash team when required.
  • Collecting blood samples from around the hospital and transporting them to the appropriate pathology service when required.
  • Supporting the safe and effective management of clinical waste, including ensuring appropriate PPE is worn.
  • Assisting with deliveries and supporting contractors while on site.
  • Acting as a helpful point of contact for departments across the hospital.
  • Assisting with the set-up of meetings and hospital events.
  • Working closely with colleagues across the hospital to provide an excellent service to patients, visitors and staff.

One Ashford Hospital, part of Phoenix Hospital Group, is looking for a dedicated Porter to join our Hotel Services team. This is a varied and important role at the heart of the hospital, helping to ensure our patients, visitors and colleagues receive a smooth, safe and supportive experience.

As a Porter, you will play a key part in the day-to-day running of the hospital. From supporting patients and assisting with transfers to helping departments, managing deliveries and ensuring the safe handling of waste, no two days will be the same.

What you'll be doing

What we're looking for

You will ideally have:

  • Experience working in a hospital or patient-focused environment
  • Experience working face-to-face with patients
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
