Job summary

The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust is seeking a ward-based pharmacy assistant to join the clinical pharmacy team. You will support patients and nursing staff in using and looking after medicines, and work with Medicines Management Technicians to reduce waste and process orders through the electronic prescribing system.

The role requires hospital or community pharmacy experience and an NVQ level 2 in pharmacy services or equivalent, or willingness to work towards it.

Qualifications

• GCSEs including Maths, English and a science subject.
• NVQ level 2 in pharmacy services or equivalent, or willingness to work towards it.
• Evidence of CPD

Responsibilities

• Provide pharmacy assistant support to the clinical pharmacy team and ward-based medicines management.
• Support patients and nursing staff in using and looking after medicines.
• Work alongside the Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician to reduce medication waste.
• Support appropriate storage of medicines on the ward.
• Process medication orders through the electronic prescribing system.
• Provide medicine dispensing services where necessary.
• Support the main dispensary in providing an extended-hours service.
• Work weekend, bank holiday and late night shifts as part of a 7-day pharmacy service.
• Undertake further education and training to advance the role of pharmacy staff.
• Expand and broaden skills and abilities.
