Job summary

Priory Hospital Middleton St George is seeking a Ward Manager to lead and develop the ward’s nursing team, ensuring safe care and effective discharge planning within a specialist inpatient setting in Darlington, County Durham.

You will oversee medicines management, audits, incident investigations and staff development, while upholding safeguarding and consent standards and Priory policies. The role is full-time, 37.5 hours weekly, with enhanced benefits.

Qualifications

• Current registration with the NMC as a first-level nurse or registration with HCPC, as applicable to the ward.
• At least 2 years’ experience in a supervisory capacity within a relevant care setting.
• Experience working as a registered practitioner in a clinical setting relevant to the post.
• Experience supervising nursing staff, with current assessor/supervisor training.
• Computer literacy and willingness to undertake further clinical, management and leadership training.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the ward’s nursing team, overseeing staffing levels, rotas, skill mix, annual leave and mandatory training to ensure safe and effective ward cover.
• Monitor the quality of patient care, ensuring individualised care plans are maintained, physical and mental health needs are addressed, and discharge planning involves patients and their families or carers where appropriate
• Support staff development through clinical supervision, appraisals, performance management and mentoring, while promoting a positive learning culture and high standards of professional practice.
• Oversee medicines management, clinical audits, incident reporting and investigations, ensuring concerns are addressed promptly and corrective actions are implemented.
• Maintain a safe, compliant ward environment by monitoring cleanliness, patient nutrition, equipment and resources, ensuring compliance with safeguarding requirements, the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and relevant Priory policies.
