Sodexo at Nuffield Health York Hospital is hiring a Ward Catering Assistant to provide meals and a caring, patient-focused service in a hospital setting.

You will play a key role in delivering quality meals and friendly interactions to patients, staff and visitors, helping maintain a welcoming environment and high service standards.

Qualifications

• Previous catering experience or willingness to learn.
• Positive, reliable and caring approach for patient service.
• Good communication and listening skills in a team setting.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
• Commitment to food safety, hygiene and cleanliness.
• Good timekeeping and flexibility to support the team.
• Willingness to complete required training, including Food Safety Level 2.

Responsibilities

• Deliver a friendly, high-quality meal service to patients, staff and visitors.
• Prepare, assemble and serve patient meals with dietary considerations.
• Maintain food safety, hygiene and infection prevention standards.
• Complete temperature checks and quality records accurately.
• Keep ward kitchens and equipment clean and well stocked.
• Support stock rotation, waste reduction and safe transport of trolleys.
• Work as part of a team and assist with other catering duties.

• 18 hours per week
• Shift Pattern: 3 days out of 7, including weekend work
• Shift Times : 6 hour shifts within hours of 7:00 am - 8:00 pm | Saturday and Sunday: 7:00 am - 7:00 pm
• Parking on site / Meal on shift / Uniform provided / gym discount
• Permanent contract

What You’ll Do:

• Deliver a friendly, high-quality meal service to patients, ensuring dignity, care and excellent customer service.
• Prepare, assemble and serve patient meals accurately, including special dietary requirements.
• Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene and infection prevention in line with hospital and company policies.
• Complete food temperature checks, quality records and other required documentation accurately.
• Keep ward kitchens, catering equipment and work areas clean, safe and well stocked.
• Support stock rotation, waste reduction and the safe transportation of food trolleys.
• Work as part of a team, following instructions and helping with other catering duties as required

What You Bring:

• Previous experience in a similar role or willingness to learn
• A positive, reliable and caring approach, with a genuine desire to provide excellent service to patients.
• Good communication and listening skills, with the ability to work well as part of a team.
• The ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately and work efficiently.
• A commitment to maintaining high standards of food safety, hygiene and cleanliness.
• Good timekeeping, reliability and a flexible approach to supporting the team.
• A willingness to learn and complete required training, including maintaining mandatory standards.
• A Food Safety Level 2 certificate (or equivalent), or a willingness to achieve this.
