Job summary

Sodexo Ltd invites applications for a Ward Host/Hostess at Nuffield Health Tunbridge Wells Hospital. The role focuses on delivering meals with care and a smile to patients, staff and visitors, while maintaining high hygiene and service standards.

Hours are 37.5 per week with a shift pattern of 5 days out of 7; typical shifts are 7am-3pm, 10am-6pm or 12pm-8pm. Permanent contract with benefits offered.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Basic knowledge of food handling, food safety and hygiene standards.
• Ability to follow allergies and dietary requirements.

Responsibilities

• Welcome patients and visitors in a warm, professional manner.
• Take and record meal orders, including allergies and dietary needs.
• Deliver meals to patients’ rooms and ensure comfort.
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene across ward areas and equipment.
• Follow food safety and health & safety procedures at all times.
• Monitor stock levels and complete relevant records accurately.
• Respond to patient needs and escalate issues when required.

What You’ll Do:

• Welcome patients and visitors with a warm, friendly, and professional approach.
• Take and accurately record meal and refreshment orders, including allergies and dietary requirements.
• Deliver meals and refreshments to patients’ rooms, ensuring they have everything they need and are comfortable.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene across ward kitchens, dining areas, crockery, equipment, and trays.
• Follow food safety, infection prevention, and health & safety procedures at all times.
• Monitor stock levels, rotate supplies, and complete relevant records and documentation accurately.
• Respond promptly to patient needs or concerns, resolving issues where possible and escalating when required.

What You Bring:

• A friendly, caring, and professional approach with a genuine focus on patient wellbeing.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to interact calmly and respectfully with patients, visitors, and colleagues.
• Basic knowledge of food handling, food safety, and hygiene standards.
• A keen eye for detail, particularly when handling allergies and dietary requirements.
• The ability to stay organised and work efficiently during busy service periods.
• A positive, flexible, and team-focused attitude, with a willingness to support colleagues when needed.
• A Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to obtain one, where applicable).
