Job summary

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust offers a 16-month ward-based apprenticeship. You will work alongside the team leader or nurse in charge, providing hands-on personal care while learning under registered staff.

The role allows progression to more clinical tasks as competence grows, such as dressings and sample collection, while maintaining patient safety in a busy ward environment.

Qualifications

• Numeracy and literacy at Level 1 (Grade D or Grade 3) or equivalent.
• Willingness to work towards Functional Skills Level 2 in numeracy and literacy.
• Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide personal care including hygiene, continence aids, mobility support, and safe patient handling.
• Carry out supervised clinical tasks as competence grows (catheter care, dressings, venflon removal).
• Take samples for testing (urine, sputum, blood) and observe patient condition.
