Job description

We are currently recruiting for a Waking Night Support Worker to join a dedicated team of support workers. This is a Male Waking Night Support Worker position providing support on a 24/7 basis with a 2:1 staffing ratio. You will work rotational 12-hour waking night shifts.

Waking Nights

As a Waking Night Support Worker, you will remain awake throughout your night shift, providing consistent 2:1 support, promoting the gentleman's safety, comfort, dignity and wellbeing and responding to his needs as they arise.

This Waking Night Support Worker role is an important part of the 24/7 support package and requires someone who is reliable, attentive and able to provide consistent support throughout the night.

About the Role

As a Waking Night Male Support Worker, you will play a pivotal role in providing person-centred support for a gentleman in his 30s who is a wheelchair user and receives 2:1 support in his own home.

He loves computer games, going to the gym and swimming. He also enjoys the cinema, bowling, visiting the pub, playing guitar and listening to music.

We are looking for a Male Support Worker who is proactive, fun, upbeat and naturally bubbly. You will also need to be calm, relaxed and resilient, and fond of animals, as the gentleman has a pet cat.

You will join a dynamic and resilient team that values diversity, promotes inclusion and fosters a supportive environment.

You will preferably have experience working as a Waking Night Support Worker or supporting people with:

  • Cerebral palsy
  • Autism
  • Complex behavioural needs
  • Trauma-informed care

Ideally, your experience will be in community-based settings, such as supported living or community care. Previous experience as a Waking Night Support Worker and knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) would be an advantage.

Key Responsibilities

As a Waking Night Support Worker, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing person-centred support that promotes independence, choice and dignity.
  • Working with the person to identify potential triggers that may lead to mental health decline or behaviours of concern.
  • Implementing Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) strategies to improve quality of life.
  • Collaborating with the person to create and implement tailored support plans.
  • Assisting with essential life skills, including cooking, personal hygiene, budgeting and household management.
  • Supporting medication, medical appointments and overall health and wellbeing.
  • Maintaining accurate care records, documenting progress, incidents and outcomes.
  • Working closely with colleagues, family members, external professionals and other agencies to ensure holistic care.

We are looking for a dedicated Waking Night Support Worker who can build a positive relationship, provide consistent support and help this gentleman enjoy a fulfilling and meaningful life.

This vacancy is advertised for male applicants under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010, where being male is an occupational requirement for this particular role. This is based on the individual's needs, privacy and dignity and the nature of the personal support provided.
