Vocational Instructor/Trainer – Construction (Roadworks & Groundworks)

Position Details
  • Location: Glasgow, Scotland
  • Contract Type: Full Time, Permanent
  • Salary & Benefits: 25 days’ annual leave (rising to 30 with service) plus bank holidays, hybrid and flexible working arrangements
The Role

As a Vocational Instructor/Trainer – Construction, you will deliver high-quality vocational education and training to learners working towards SVQs in areas such as Drainage, Concrete Laying, Tarmac Surfacing, Kerb and Edging Installation, Monoblocking, Paving, and Slabbing. Your expertise will ensure learners acquire the technical skills, knowledge, and behaviors needed for successful careers in roadworks, groundworks, and related sectors.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Plan and deliver engaging, practical, and theory-based lessons aligned to current industry standards.
  2. Develop high-quality teaching and assessment resources tailored to Construction Roadworks and Groundworks disciplines.
  3. Personalise learning based on initial assessments and learner needs.
  4. Provide regular feedback to facilitate learner improvement.
  5. Track learner progress using the Learner Management System.
  6. Liaise with Apprenticeship Development Coaches and employers regarding learner progress.
  7. Support workplace development where necessary.
  8. Promote safeguarding, health and safety, and a positive learning environment.
  9. Stay updated with industry standards through ongoing professional development.
Candidate Requirements
  1. Minimum Level 2 vocational qualification (or equivalent) in Construction or a related field.
  2. Extensive hands-on experience in Construction Roadworks, Groundworking, or related occupations, including drainage, concrete laying, tarmac, kerbs, monoblocking, paving, and slabbing.
  3. Strong knowledge of current industry practices.
  4. Experience in Training, Teaching, Learning, and Assessment is highly desirable.
  5. Level 3 teaching qualification (or willingness to obtain within one year).
  6. Assessor Awards (or willingness to obtain within one year).
  7. Excellent communication, organizational, and IT skills (Microsoft Office 365).
  8. Educated to Level 2 or above in English and maths.
  9. Level 5 teaching qualification.
  10. Experience delivering apprenticeships or SVQs.
Additional Requirements
  1. Ability to work non-standard hours as required.
  2. Willingness to travel with occasional overnight stays.
  3. Full driving license.
  4. Enhanced DBS check.
