Allied Bakeries in London’s Walthamstow area is seeking a VMU Shift Technician/HGV Mechanic to maintain our fleet. You will perform inspections, servicing and repairs to keep vehicles roadworthy and compliant, following DVSA standards.

The role demands strong diagnostic skills, a safety-focused mindset, and the ability to work with Transport and Logistics teams. A full UK driving licence and NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance are essential, with excellent teamwork and communication valued.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (or equivalent qualification).
• Previous experience working on commercial vehicles and HGV fleets.
• Strong diagnostic, fault-finding, and mechanical repair skills.
• Full UK Driving Licence.

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine inspections, servicing, maintenance, and repairs on HGVs, trailers, and associated equipment.
• Diagnose faults efficiently and undertake corrective repairs to minimise vehicle downtime.
• Complete preventative maintenance activities to maximise fleet reliability and performance.
• Ensure all vehicles are maintained to DVSA standards and company compliance requirements.
• Prepare vehicles for MOT testing and support ongoing compliance checks.
• Accurately complete maintenance records, inspection sheets, and repair documentation.
• Work closely with Transport and Logistics teams to ensure maximum vehicle availability.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment.
• Follow all Health & Safety procedures and report any hazards or safety concerns promptly.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives within the workshop and VMU operation.

About the Role

As an HGV Mechanic, you'll play a vital role in maintaining the reliability, safety, and compliance of our fleet. You'll carry out inspections, preventative maintenance, servicing, and repairs to ensure our vehicles remain roadworthy and available to support our operations.

What We're Looking For

Essential Requirements

• NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (or equivalent qualification).
• Previous experience working on commercial vehicles and HGV fleets.
• Strong diagnostic, fault-finding, and mechanical repair skills.
• Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable

• HGV Class 1 (C+E) or Class 2 Licence.
• Experience within a fleet maintenance or transport operation.

• Welding or fabrication experience.
• Experience working with electronic diagnostic equipment.
