Job summary

Home Bargains is expanding its Liverpool Regional Distribution Centre VMU team. We seek an experienced Vehicle Technician to service and repair our fleet, including trailer systems, with a focus on quality and compliance.

Role involves on-site work, 6am–6pm, 4 days on 4 off, and a commitment to safety standards. You'll join a large, private family-owned retailer with extensive fleet operations, offering comprehensive benefits and development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Min 3 years' proven experience as a Vehicle Technician with trailer maintenance experience.
• Experience diagnosing faults with computer-based diagnostic equipment.
• UK driving licence held; HGV category advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Carry out preventative vehicle maintenance and servicing, MOT preparation and repairs to a high standard.
• Inspect engine and mechanical/electrical components to diagnose issues accurately using diagnostic tools.
• Repair or replace broken parts and resolve defects; road test vehicles after repairs.
• Maintain VMU equipment and working areas to a high, clean standard; use hand tools and garage equipment.
• Tail lift maintenance and bodywork repairs, fabrication and basic welding.

Job description

As a Vehicle Technician you will report to a Shift Supervisor and spend most of your time in the VMU as well as completing off site repairs. You will be part of a VMU team which delivers excellent service to our wider business and maintains the fleet to the highest standards, complying to all health and safety procedures as well as DVSA requirements. Working closely with other members of the team as well as the wider VMU and Transport team, you will make sure resources are aligned and a smooth-running operation is achieved. We are looking for proactive individuals who can identify and resolve problems swiftly and who actively strive to continually improve team performance.,

• Carry out preventative vehicle maintenance and servicing, MOT preparation and repairs to a high standard
• Inspect vehicle engine and mechanical/electrical components to diagnose issues accurately, using computer-based diagnostic equipment
• Repair or replace broken or defective parts and resolve defects
• Road test vehicles to check repairs
• Maintain VMU equipment and working areas to a good, clean condition
• Use hand tools and general garage equipment
• Tail Lift maintenance and vehicle body work repairs, fabrication and basic welding processes
• Complete administrative tasks and reports as requested
• Min 3 years' proven experience as a Vehicle Technician with trailer maintenance experience
• Level 2 City & Guilds or BTECH National in HGV Motor Vehicle Engineering or equivalent UK recognised qualification
• UK Driving licence (HGV category an advantage)
• Experience in fault diagnostic equipment, e.g. Tech tool, MULTI/STAR and JAL and including trailer systems
• A desire for delivering the highest possible standards of work with respect to quality and compliance
• Must own standard tools - more specific tools will be provided

• IRTEC inspection licence along with any tail lift inspection certification

  Following the recent expansion of our fleet, we have a fantastic opportunity at our Liverpool Regional Distribution Centre, Vehicle Maintenance Unit for an experienced Vehicle Technician to join our team.

Our VMU is a 24 hour operation with over 20 technicians, apprentices and support staff. We have a modern fleet of vehicles and trailers to include Scania/Volvo diesel and CNG powered trucks. Our trailer fleet includes over 300 double deck trailers and 400 standard trailers all fitted with various types of tail lifts.
