Job summary

Lancashire Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Biomedical Scientist for Virology and Molecular Sciences. You will perform a range of laboratory tests autonomously and contribute to the interpretation and communication of results to clinical staff.

The role requires flexibility to work a shift rota seven days a week, good IT communication, supervision of junior staff, inventory management, and accurate recording to support patient care and tight turn-around times.

Responsibilities

• Perform a range of laboratory tests autonomously.
• Demonstrate understanding of scientific basis for tests and disease processes.
• Communicate using information technology where appropriate.
• Direct junior staff regarding technical and work issues.
• Handle telephone enquiries from nurses, clinicians and healthcare practitioners, giving technical advice on results and service use.
• Maintain inventory records to ensure accurate stock management.
• Record issues and report to appropriate person.
• Contribute to effective verbal and written communication by qualified and unqualified staff.
• Support the Virology family environment and meet tight turn-around-times and targets.
