Job summary

Lancashire Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Band 5 HCPC Biomedical Scientist to join our Virology team at Blackpool Teaching Hospital. You will perform a range of tests, assist on the shift rota, and contribute to service delivery in a busy UKAS ISO15189 accredited laboratory.

We value motivation, ICT literacy and strong teamwork as essential to supporting diagnosis and patient care, with training provided to become competent across the Virology portfolio.

Qualifications

• Perform a range of laboratory tests autonomously and understand the scientific basis for tests and disease processes.

Responsibilities

• Be able to work on a shift rota, covering seven days a week.
• Communicate using information technology.
• Direct more junior staff regarding technical/work issues.
• Deal with telephone enquiries from nurses, clinicians and healthcare practitioners, giving technical advice on results and use of the service.
• Maintain and record inventory to ensure accurate stock management.
• Assist in effective verbal and written communication by qualified and unqualified staff.
• Report issues to an appropriate person.
