Job description

If you're a vet and you're looking for the opportunity to work at a practice that is on a mission to provide affordable care for sick pets, then look no further.

We're seeking people who like to roll their sleeves up and get stuck in, and who thrive on learning new skills. You'll be part of a busy team of clinicians and given opportunities you may have never thought possible. We want our teams to always be developing and growing, while also helping the pet owning community with the cost of caring for what is often their best friend.

We are a Community Interest Company, which means we reinvest the majority of our profit into our team and our patients' care. In 2022 we were also officially certified as a B-Corporation, because we balance profit with people and the planet.

How we treat clients and their pets is equally important to us because we want to be helping to create and be part of a happy, healthy, pet owning community. If this sounds like the type of team you'd like to be part of and you are confident, calm and kind, whatever the situation, then get in touch.

Be part of the Blackburn Bunch

Our Blackburn Practice is at the heart of the pet-owning community in Blackburn. Many of the team have been with Animal Trust for a number of years, because what we do matters to them – their work makes a real difference to local pet owners, many of whom are reliant on our social aims to help access care for their pet.

By joining our Blackburn surgery, you will be part of a close-knit and friendly team who are all proud to measure their success by the number of lives saved and not profits made.

As our new Veterinary Surgeon, you will benefit from joining a team that are passionate about developing your skillset. You’ll have a busy (but manageable) varied caseload, and the upside to that is you’ll have the opportunity to specialise in areas of interest to you.

This is an exceptional opportunity to have a career with purpose, up skill and be welcomed into a friendly and skilled team.

The site undertakes orthopaedics, as well as general surgery. It has three theatres, good quality ultrasound and X-ray, species specific wards, dental X-ray and seven consult rooms. Our medical certificate-holding principal vet also works from the site two days per week.

Blackburn partners with our 24/7 site in Bolton, which provides round-the-clock inpatient and OOH care, helping us to remove barriers to pets accessing care when they need it and allowing continuity of care.

The Rewarding Stuff:

  • If you feel strongly about the same things we do, you’ll feel right at home with our super friendly and motivated team.
  • You’ll make a difference to the health of animals who might not otherwise get that chance.
  • You’ll enjoy the buzz and liveliness of a fast-paced environment.
  • Your caseload will be really varied and interesting, and you’ll get plenty of opportunities to advance your technical, emergency and critical care skills.

What We’re After:

  • You really love what you do and want to make a big difference.
  • You feel as strongly as we do about our social mission.
  • You can empathise with the owner and the patient.
  • You enjoy the buzz and liveliness of a fast-paced environment.
  • You’re excited by the opportunity to get stuck into a varied caseload.
  • You’re keen to grow your technical capability and be part of a friendly and multi-talented team.
  • You’ve got great ECC skills.
  • You’re able to work seamlessly with the team.

What You’ll Get:

  • A salary of £38,000-£67,000
  • A working pattern of 4 days per week, plus one weekend a month (with other, flexible shift patterns available)
  • 6 weeks of holiday per year
  • 52 weeks sickness benefit, private healthcare and a free employee assistance program (awarded after the qualifying period)
  • RCVS and VDS fees paid.
  • Staff discount
  • Cycle to work scheme.
  • Refer-a-friend bonus.
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • Access to counselling support, including mental health, financial and life counselling (after 12 months of service)
  • UK and International CPD funded to diploma level.
  • A collaborative culture
  • Your opinions will be valued, and your voice will be heard.
  • A varied, interesting and challenging career

Not quite sure whether you meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people from ethnic minorities are less likely to apply to jobs unless they tick every box. At Animal Trust, we’re dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace. So… if you’re excited about this role but your experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description - we encourage you to apply anyway. There’s every chance you’re exactly what we’re looking for.
