Job description

Join our supportive, multi-award-winning, locally owned practice in Leeds Colton. Do you love animals, enjoy working with people and take pride in giving great customer service?

We’re looking for a friendly, enthusiastic and compassionate Veterinary Receptionist to join our welcoming team at VetsforPets Colton.

This is much more than a traditional reception role. You’ll be at the heart of our practice - building relationships with clients and their pets, supporting our clinical team and helping make every visit as positive and stress‑free as possible.

If you’re organised, approachable and enjoy being part of a busy, close‑knit team, we’d love to hear from you.

About us

We’re a modern, purpose‑built, locally owned and managed small animal practice in Colton, Leeds.

Being locally owned means that our decisions are made by people who work alongside you every day. We understand the realities of working in a busy veterinary practice, and we’re committed to creating an environment where our people feel supported, respected and valued.

We’re proud of our team and the culture we’ve created - one where everyone has an important role to play and where colleagues genuinely look out for one another.

You’ll be joining an experienced and established team of:

  • 8 Vets, including 4 Practice Partners
  • 8 Registered Veterinary Nurses
  • 4 Student Nurses
  • 4 Receptionists
  • 1 Practice Manager

We’re a friendly, well‑balanced team who work together to provide the very best care and experience for our patients, clients and colleagues.

What will your day look like?

As one of the first people our clients meet, you’ll play a really important role in the practice.

Some days will be busy and fast‑paced; others will give you more time to build those lovely relationships with our regular clients and their pets. Whatever the day brings, you’ll be supported by a team who understand that great receptionists are a vital part of great veterinary care.

Your role will include:

  • Welcoming clients and their pets with warmth, empathy and professionalism.
  • Being a friendly and reassuring voice on the telephone.
  • Managing emails, WhatsApp and other digital communications.
  • Booking appointments and helping keep the practice running smoothly.
  • Taking payments and processing prescription requests.
  • Maintaining accurate client and patient records.
  • Supporting our clinical team with administration, including paperwork for hospitalised patients.
  • Processing insurance claim forms and registering microchips.
  • Completing daily cashing‑up and other reception administration.
  • Keeping the reception area clean, tidy and welcoming.
  • Keeping client information and notice boards up to date.
  • Talking to clients about our bespoke Complete Care Plan and helping them understand how it can support their pet's ongoing health and wellbeing.
  • Helping ensure clear, compassionate communication between clients and our clinical team.
  • Using our online booking and practice management systems.
Who are we looking for?

You don’t necessarily need previous veterinary reception experience. What matters most to us is your attitude, your approach to people and your willingness to learn.

You’ll be someone who:

  • Genuinely enjoys helping people and understands how important pets are to their owners.
  • Is naturally friendly, approachable and confident when speaking with clients.
  • Takes pride in delivering an exceptional customer experience.
  • Is organised and able to juggle different priorities in a busy environment.
  • Is comfortable using computers and enjoys learning new systems.
  • Has excellent attention to detail, particularly when handling client and patient information.
  • Works well as part of a team and is always happy to lend a hand.
  • Can use your own initiative and stay calm when things get busy.
  • Is comfortable having conversations with clients about services and care plans.
  • Is reliable, conscientious and brings a positive attitude to work.

Veterinary experience is an advantage, but it isn’t essential. If you have a strong customer service background and a genuine love of animals, we’d love to hear from you.

The role
Full-time position. Our reception team participates fully in our weekend rota, currently 1 weekend in 4. Part-time position will also be considered
What’s in it for you?

We believe people do their best work when they feel supported, appreciated and part of something they enjoy.

In return for your commitment, we offer:

  • £26,436.80 per annum, depending on skills and experience.
  • A strong focus on colleague wellbeing.
  • A contributory pension scheme.
  • 20% staff discount at Pets at Home, The Groom Room and VetsforPets.
  • Access to exclusive high‑street discounts and cashback rewards.
  • Genuine opportunities for career development and progression.
  • A supportive leadership team who are actively involved in the practice and available when you need them.
  • The opportunity to work in a friendly, forward‑thinking and locally managed practice where your contribution is genuinely valued.
