Job description

At inspiring vet care, our people are at the heart of everything we do. As the UK's number one vet care provider, we're trusted with the care of over 2 million animals, delivering our purpose of healthier animals and happier owners.

We are seeking an organised, personable Receptionist to join our team at Overdale Vets on a part-time fixed term basis for 6 months.

Overdale is a long-standing practice located in the heart of Buxton, providing services to the town and the surrounding areas, including the Hope Valley where we have a small branch. To the south of Buxton our catchment area overlaps with our sister practice McMurtry and Harding, who have branches in Ashbourne and Wirksworth.

We are a mixed practice providing care, advice and treatment for all animals great and small. In 2010 we entered into a voluntary scheme with our governing body, the RCVS, which gives you confidence that our practice and the services it offers have been 'vetted' and have passed.

How You'll Make a Difference

As a Receptionist, you will be the first point of contact for clients, playing a key role in delivering a welcoming, professional and compassionate experience at every interaction.

You'll support the smooth running of the practice by managing appointments, handling enquiries, supporting client communications and working closely with clinical and non-clinical colleagues to ensure a positive client and patient journey.

Working Pattern

  • Every other Wednesday 8:30am - 5:30pm, Thursday 8am - 5pm, Friday 8:30am - 7pm (these are all with an hour lunch) 1 in 4 Saturdays 8am - 2pm

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and committed to maintaining high professional standards. Duties include managing the appointment diary, handling client queries, processing invoices and payments, maintaining debt control, completing reminder and follow-up calls, dispensing prescriptions, updating client records, supporting marketing initiatives, and ensuring the reception area remains clean and well-stocked.

You will also assist with stock control, insurance documentation, daily administrative tasks, and comply with all practice policies and Health & Safety regulations. A positive attitude, strong organisational skills, and a commitment to personal development are essential to contribute to the continued success and profitability of the practice

You Might Be a Great Fit If...

You are a friendly, organised and customer-focused individual who enjoys working as part of a team. You'll bring:

  • Excellent communication skills and a professional, welcoming manner
  • Experience in a customer-facing role, with a strong focus on service and attention to detail
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks effectively in a busy environment
  • A collaborative approach and willingness to support colleagues
