Job summary

Royal Mail in Carlisle is seeking a Level 3 Vehicle Technician for a permanent role within our Carlisle Workshop. You will work a rotating schedule, covering early and late shifts, with Saturdays on a 1-in-3 basis.

A base salary of £40,906 is offered with extra weekend pay and overtime potential up to £70k. You’ll inspect, diagnose, maintain and repair a wide range of vehicles, trailers and equipment using your own toolkit and access to modern workshop tooling.

Qualifications

• Fully qualified to Level 3 in Light or Heavy vehicle work.
• You have your own toolkit for standard repairs.
• Experience working on a range of vehicles including LCV/HGV.
• UK driving licence held (preferably HGV).
• Flexible to shift patterns and able to support the team.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections, diagnostics, maintenance and repairs on a range of vehicles and equipment.
• Use personal toolkit for routine maintenance and repairs.
• Access specialist tooling and equipment in modern workshops.

We’re recruiting a Level 3 qualified mechanic at Carlisle Workshop on a Permanent contract, with the potential to earn up to £70k including overtime.

Working Hours: Full time - 39.5 hours per week (excluding meal breaks) (rotating shift pattern; week 1: 06:00 - 14:00, week 2: 10:00 - 18:00). You will be required to work 1 in 3 Saturdays 06:00 - 14:30 (with a weekday day off)

• You’ll perform a full range of inspections, diagnostic, maintenance, and repair procedures on a range of vehicles, trailers, and mechanical equipment.
• You’ll use your own personal toolkit to undertake routine maintenance and repair light / heavy goods vehicles.
• You’ll also have access to specialist tooling and shared equipment in our modern, fully equipped workshops.

A Bit About You

• Qualified mechanic: you’re fully qualified to an advanced level (Level 3 in Light or Heavy vehicle or equivalent). You’ve got your own toolkit for standard repairs.
• Varied vehicle experience: Proven Vehicle Technician experience working on a wide range of vehicles, for example LCV / HGV.
• Valid UK driving licence: You hold a full manual UK driving licence, preferably an HGV licence with trailer experience.
• High working standards: you take pride in your work and do what is necessary to make sure the job is done effectively.
• Flexible to service demands: you’re able to work on a flexible shift rota. You’re always willing to support your team where necessary.
