Job description

Salary: Up to £36,000 per annum, based on skills and experience

Full time; 40 hours per week

Based in: Covent Garden, London

The Royal Ballet and Opera continues to lead the way in opera, ballet, music and dance both live on stage and through multiple digital platforms, from live streaming to worldwide cinema screenings. Our Covent Garden theatre has been at the heart of London and British cultural life for three centuries. We are home to two world-class Companies: The Royal Ballet and The Royal Opera.

The Royal Opera House describes the place we work, not who we are. The whole is always more than the sum of its parts – we may be a House, but three quarters of our audiences experience what we do outside this building. While our Covent Garden theatre is the nerve centre, the impact and influence of the organisation can be felt in every corner of the country, and around the world. Understanding our audience supports our mission to make ballet and opera for everyone.

We are seeking to recruit a UX Research Associate to join our Analytics and Insight Team. The postholder will work across the portfolio of RBO digital products to plan, run, and analyse user research activities to help us better understand user motivations and behaviours. Your findings will support the design, development, accessibility and continuous improvement of digital services in the wider context of a busy theatre and public space. In this post, you will be required to choose appropriate research tools and methods to suit different questions and collaborate with teams across the business to inspire design thinking and customer empathy in an agile, fast-paced, iterative environment.

Skills

The successful candidate will be a strong team player, with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to advocate for user research to stakeholders. With an inquisitive mind and the desire to understand user needs, they will be focused on how we can best improve the user’s experience. They will be able to demonstrate:

  • An understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods, appreciating their limitations and when to apply them appropriately
  • Some experience facilitating and running research, in a digital, marketing, academic or other capacity
  • Experience analysing outcomes and data to produce actionable findings
  • Good track record in delivering accurate, high-quality work to deadlines and to required standards
  • Some experience challenging current practice where data from user research supports the need for change

A relevant qualification or equivalent in HCI/Usability/Cognitive Psychology/Analytics or related field, or sufficient experience in order to be able to validate the tools and methodologies for each assignment will be highly regarded so please ensure you reference this in your application.

Please note, the skills we are looking for in this role may also be equivalent to: UX/CX Designer, UX/CX Analyst, User experience researcher, Product researcher or Insights analyst in other organisations.
