Job Description:

Main purpose of job:

To manage the Underwriting Support team, providing support to the Underwriting teams of both Syndicate and MGA trading platforms as part of the Operations function, through the provision of management information, insights and portfolio reporting.

Supporting the Blenheim Underwriting Ltd (BUL) CUO in maintaining oversight over the performance of all Syndicate classes of business, including administration of assigned risks and controls, coordination of responses to underwriting audit actions (internal and external) and independent peer review actions.

Key tasks:

  1. Manage the development of the UW support team resource.
  2. Support the development of the Syndicate underwriting operations processes and procedures to enhance efficiencies and alignment with the Group’s Data strategy.
  3. Support the CUO in the reporting and analysis of the Syndicate Underwriting portfolio, working with applicable functions, such as Finance, Actuarial, Operations, in the development of relevant reporting metrics.
  4. Manage the Syndicate PMD returns process, and other relevant regulatory returns, working with IT and the CUO in the effective delivery of accurate and meaningful analysis.
  5. Develop, implement and manage Syndicate underwriting controls monitoring delegated and non-delegated underwriting performance.
  6. Contribute to the collation and escalation of Syndicate internal and external audits, and independent peer review actions pertaining to underwriting. Work with the CUO and Risk Management in the implementation and administration of the underwriting risk and controls framework.
  7. Support the Syndicate CUO in ensuring Lloyd’s Principles relating to Underwriting are being met and appropriately evidenced.
  8. Facilitate the formal and regular review of Syndicate delegated underwriting premium income, ensuring underwriting teams provide accurate and up-to-date premium estimates.
  9. Contribute to the delivery of operational efficiencies and MI for both trading platforms (Syndicate and MGA) internally (to Committees and Boards) and externally (to Regulators).

  6. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  7. Strong people and communication skills who listens and understands the issues, able to represent the function at relevant market forums.

Key technical skills, knowledge and professional qualifications required:

  1. Strong experience and understanding of the Lloyd’s (re)insurance market.
  2. Proficient use of Microsoft Office and Business Intelligence tools, including Excel, Power BI etc.
  3. Ability to effectively manage internal and external stakeholders of all levels.
