Job Description

Nexus Underwriting Ltd is seeking to hire an enthusiastic, analytical, and detail-oriented Underwriting Assistant. The successful applicant will support the Aviation & Marine team in writing business for the company, liaising with various other departments within the group and Brokers in the marketplace.

The successful candidate will provide high-quality administrative support to the underwriting team, including managing inboxes, logging risks, liaising with Brokers on queries, maintaining accurate and organized underwriting system(s) and document repositories, and performing other administrative tasks as requested by the underwriting team and Directors.

Responsibilities:
  1. Processing firm orders and bound risks onto our underwriting system(s);
  2. Processing endorsements and MTAs onto our underwriting system(s), including APs, RPs, amendments to cover/client details, and letters of appointment;
  3. Accurate input of technical risks from slips into the risk system;
  4. Extracting documentation from the IMR (Insurance Market Repository);
  5. Advising and administering specialist technical processing matters, including insurance tax application;
  6. Liaising with Xchanging and Brokers to assist with premium signing queries;
  7. Managing documentation, including scanning, recording, and filing for all risks;
  8. Matching technical Xchanging messages to slips and endorsements;
  9. Collaborating with Credit Control to chase aged debts and enter premium credit risks;
  10. Supporting analysis, preparation, and execution of Binder renewals;
  11. Regularly reporting progress against KPIs;
  12. Performing ad hoc duties as needed to support underwriters;
  13. Ensuring the Nexus brand and code of conduct are adhered to at all times, both within the workplace and at external events.
Experience:
  • Experience working with Xchanging is essential;
  • An enthusiastic and hardworking individual focused on providing excellent service;
  • Adaptable and capable of managing multiple tasks within a high-pressure environment, including meeting tight deadlines for monthly, quarterly, and annual closing dates;
  • High attention to detail and accurate record-keeping;
  • Problem-solving skills and a keen desire to learn;
  • Ability to operate with integrity and professionalism to build trust;
  • Experience in developing strong working relationships;
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products and at least one underwriting system;
  • Ideally educated to A level (or equivalent), with strong results in a numeric subject and English preferred.
