Job summary

Yelp is hiring for Site Reliability Engineers to build and manage scalable, self-healing, globally distributed systems in the United Kingdom. You’ll work across dev and systems to keep the site fast, available, and growing for 100M users per month, empowering product teams with automation and self-service tooling.

You’ll own datastores like Cassandra and MySQL, automate with Python, Puppet, Git, Jenkins, and Terraform, and participate in distributed on-call rotations.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with Linux and an enthusiasm for learning more.
• Command of modern programming languages such as Python, Ruby, Go, Java, C++.
• Exposure/interest in datastore technology such as MySQL and/or Cassandra.
• Hands-on experience with public cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code and Configuration Management (Terraform, Puppet, Ansible).
• Experience with Linux containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Understanding of TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, and monitoring concepts.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with engineers in supporting new features and services.
• Build tools to monitor site stability and performance.
• Help ensure the reliability and scalability of our infrastructure, while maintaining platform SLOs.
• Troubleshoot site issues using Splunk, Prometheus, and OpenTelemetry.
• Own and operate critical datastores, including Cassandra and MySQL.
• Automate everything with Python, Puppet, Git, Jenkins, and Terraform; leverage AI tooling.
• Develop custom tools when off-the-shelf solutions don’t work at our scale and contribute upstream to open source projects.
• Participate in light on-call rotations across distributed teams.
