Job summary

Yelp in the United Kingdom is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to help build and operate scalable, self-healing, globally distributed systems. You’ll work across dev and systems domains, empowering product teams with automation and self-service, and participate in follow-the-sun on-call rotations.

The role emphasizes reliability, performance monitoring with Splunk, Prometheus, and OpenTelemetry, and owning critical datastores while contributing to open source and internal tooling.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with Linux and an eagerness to learn more.
• Proficiency in one or more modern languages (Python, Go, Java, etc.).
• Experience with datastores such as MySQL and Cassandra.
• Hands-on with public clouds (AWS preferred).
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code and configuration management.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with engineers to support new features and services.
• Build tools to monitor site stability and performance.
• Help ensure reliability and scalability of infrastructure while maintaining platform SLOs.
• Troubleshoot site issues using Splunk, Prometheus and OpenTelemetry.
• Own and operate datastores including Cassandra and MySQL.
• Automate processes with Python, Puppet, Git, Jenkins and Terraform; contribute upstream to open source projects.
• Participate in light on-call rotations with distributed teams.
