Your mission
Reporting directly to the UK Operations & Logistics Director, as the UK Head of Operations and Logistics at Avanti Gas, your mission is to lead with an unwavering commitment to safety, ensuring that every aspect of LPG handling, transport, and storage meets or exceeds regulatory and industry standards.
You will strive to deliver exceptional service by optimizing internal and external logistics networks, minimising downtime, and ensuring on-time, reliable delivery to our customers.
Through continuous improvement, data-driven decision-making, and cross-functional collaboration, you will aim to enhance operational efficiency, and build a resilient, customer-focused operations and logistics team that supports the long-term success of our business and the communities that we serve.
Your responsibilities
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with statutory requirements for vehicle operation, in accordance with the company’s O licence.
- Create a culture of continuous improvement through the direct leadership and coaching of colleagues to ensure that direct accountability is given and managed daily.
- Develop and implement strategic plans to optimize operations and transportation efficiency, reduce costs, and improve overall operations and logistics performance, along with the capacity to facilitate future growth.
- Drive solutions pragmatically to react to changing market conditions.
- Leads and directs maintenance activities of the fleet, equipment, and all systems, ensuring maximum utilisation with minimum downtime and restricting added costs.
- Partners collaboratively with Internal Teams to resolve any customer or delivery issues, visiting customers and suppliers where necessary to promote stronger working relationships.
- Continuously improves operational strategies and processes, having a key focus on innovation.
- Negotiate contracts with transportation service providers to ensure the right balance of cost and service delivery.
- Stay updated on industry trends and best practices to bring innovation to the operations and logistics function.
- Has proven experience leading transformational change within a global matrix organisation, with a focus on customer centricity and digitalization.
- In-depth expertise in modern logistics, including knowledge and experience of developing transport functions for an international organisation.
- Leadership, management, coaching and development of the UK Operations & Logistics teams including identification of capability gaps and internal talent development.
Your qualifications and experience
- Extensive experience in safety management, preferably in industries dealing with hazardous substances.
- Fuels & Chemical experience with at least 5 years and exposure in a COMAH Environment with a minimum of 3 years of senior management responsibility.
- In-depth knowledge of UK and EU safety regulations, particularly the COMAH and Transport regulations, and related legislation (e.g., Health and Safety at Work Act, Environmental Protection Act, O Licence).
- Strong leadership and management skills to oversee Transport and Operational teams to ensure compliance and OPEX control.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with various stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and employees.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills to assess risks and implement effective safety measures.
- Proven stakeholder and 3rd party management coupled with sound decision making and contingency planning experience.
- Experience in managing BS ISO9001 with a strong focus on quality and process management.
- Able to work under pressure and make decisions in crisis situations.
- Aware of all current transport legislation including working time regulations.
- NEBOSH General Certificate.
- Experience of Supply Chain Management.
- Experience in leading/implementing S&OP processes along with a strong focus on continuous improvement.
- Transport Management including Management CPC is preferable.
Your pay and benefits package
Salary up to £80,000 depending on experience
