Role overview
Commercial Leads manage a portfolio covering multiple categories, taking the lead on specific categories such as aviation (police air support), uniform, drones, etc. This flexible approach enables equitable workload distribution and team agility.
You will be responsible for delivering maximum value through commercial activities, influencing strategy, and managing stakeholder relationships. The role involves contract management activities and supports procurement and contract management across the wider BlueLight Commercial team, offering diversity and professional development opportunities. You will also support senior management with data-driven, evidence-based decisions.

My Responsibilities and accountabilities
- Providing commercial support for planning, implementation, and monitoring of BlueLight Commercial initiatives.
- Preparing strategic plans, facilitating delivery, and making recommendations to stakeholders, ensuring compliance with procurement regulations and government policies.
- Leading contract and supplier management, including supply chain improvements and complex negotiations.
- Evaluating complex tenders and proposals for goods and services for blue light services.
- Collaborating with stakeholders to develop and deliver optimal commercial options, ensuring stakeholder commitment at each stage.
- Building strong relationships with key stakeholders and partners.
- Managing stakeholder relationships professionally, facilitating change, and mitigating risks.
- Working with financial tools to evaluate options and ensure accurate reflection of financial data in plans.
- Ensuring legal, regulatory, and security compliance, and incorporating diversity, equality, and social value considerations.
- Leading sourcing processes to meet stakeholder requirements within deadlines and achieve favorable terms.
- Undertaking any additional work as directed by your line manager.
Qualifications & Accreditations
You should have:
- CIPS qualification at Level 4 and/or at least 3 years of experience in a commercial environment (e.g., procurement, contract management).
- Willingness to work towards Government Commercial Function (GCF) accreditation to Commercial Lead level.
Experience & Knowledge
You should have:
- Relevant experience, such as working in the public sector with knowledge of procurement regulations, Equality Act 2010, and Social Value Act 2012; or private sector procurement experience with an interest in public sector roles.
- Experience in sourcing, implementing, and managing contracts and change management models.
- Proven success in managing the full commercial cycle.

Legal and Vetting Information
The successful candidate will undergo pre-employment checks, including medical screening and vetting (external NPPV3). This is crucial due to the nature of our work. Requirements include:
- Employment eligibility in the UK.
- Residency in the UK for the last 5 years.
- References covering the last 3 years or educational/personal references.
NPPV3 vetting allows access to police premises and systems, including classified material up to SECRET and occasional TOP SECRET access. Satisfying SC level clearance alongside NPPV3 grants access to higher secure information.
