Job summary

SWARCO in Melsonby is seeking an experienced Production Manager to lead operations across two facilities. The role is hands‑on, requires leadership on the shop floor and a strong electro‑mechanical manufacturing background.

You will drive safety, quality and on‑time delivery while mentoring teams and collaborating with Engineering. The successful candidate will manage production schedules, implement lean improvements, and ensure robust processes with SAP/ERP systems.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in a Production/Factory Manager role
• Electro‑mechanical or engineering background in manufacturing
• Experience leading and developing production teams
• Experience in low‑volume, high‑mix manufacturing environments
• Strong understanding of drawings and manufacturing information
• Experience with root‑cause analysis and continuous improvement
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 5S and process optimisation
• Experience using ERP systems, SAP preferred
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and general office tools
• Excellent communication across all levels of the business

Responsibilities

• Lead day‑to‑day production across two Melsonby facilities
• Provide visible leadership and spend time on the shop floor
• Develop and motivate production teams
• Build relationships with employees and address challenges
• Understand products and processes to identify improvements
• Plan production schedules and manage capacities, labour and materials
• Monitor KPIs, quality and delivery targets
• Ensure product quality aligns with specifications
• Collaborate with Engineering to improve processes and Design for Manufacture
• Drive continuous improvement, Lean Manufacturing and 5S initiatives
• Manage production resources to balance productivity, delivery and cost
• Coordinate with internal teams on priorities and schedules
• Maintain Health & Safety standards and risk management
• Support recruitment, performance and training
• Coach and develop team capability
