Job summary

You will work in Bolton as a Functional Skills Tutor, delivering Maths and English to SEND learners in small groups. The role runs on a fixed 38‑week assignment with weekly Tuesday sessions from 9:15am to 1:15pm, plus 0ne paid hour for marking and planning. A laptop is provided for the duration of the assignment.

Requirements include a PGCE or equivalent, proven experience in Functional Skills Maths and English with SEND learners, DBS on Update Service, and the ability to start immediately.

The Role

• Delivering engaging sessions: 2 hours of Maths and 2 hours of English, with a 15-minute break between lessons.
• Adapting teaching and resources to meet individual learning needs and abilities.
• Assessing learners' understanding and monitoring progress throughout the assignment.
• Providing constructive feedback and encouragement, fostering learners' confidence.
• Completing marking and associated administration within the allocated paid hour each week.
• Creating an inclusive environment where each learner feels supported and motivated to achieve.

Requirements

• PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification (QTS is not required).
• Proven experience teaching Functional Skills Maths and English.
• Previous experience teaching SEND learners is essential.
• Confident in adapting teaching methods and resources to support diverse abilities and needs.
• Strong classroom management and communication skills.
• Enhanced Child & Adult DBS on the Update Service (essential).
• Available to start immediately and commit to the 38-week assignment.
• Able to provide references covering recent employment.

Location and Package

You’ll be based in Bolton, working in a specialist education environment. Teaching hours are Tuesdays from 9:15am to 1:15pm, plus one paid hour for marking and planning, totaling 5 paid hours each week for 38 weeks.

The setting is well resourced, and you’ll have access to all the tools you need, including a laptop provided specifically for the duration of your assignment.
