Job summary

SMART Education Recruitment is seeking a Functional Skills Tutor to deliver Maths and English in Bolton, working with SEND learners in a specialist education setting. You will teach two hours of Maths and two hours of English to small groups, plus one paid hour for marking and planning each week, totaling five paid hours weekly for 38 weeks.

The role requires a PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification (QTS not required) and proven experience in Functional Skills Maths and English with SEND

Qualifications

• PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification (QTS not required).
• Proven experience teaching Functional Skills Maths and English.
• Previous experience teaching SEND learners is essential.
• Confident in adapting teaching methods and resources to support diverse abilities and needs.
• Strong classroom management and communication skills.
• Enhanced DBS on Update Service (essential).
• Available to start immediately and commit to the 38-week assignment.
• Able to provide references covering recent employment.

Responsibilities

• Delivering Maths and English sessions to small groups (2 hours Maths, 2 hours English) with a 15-minute break between lessons.
• Adapting teaching and resources to meet individual learning needs.
• Assessing learners' understanding and monitoring progress throughout the assignment.
• Providing constructive feedback and encouragement, fostering learners' confidence.
• Completing marking and associated administration within the paid hour each week.
• Creating an inclusive environment where every learner feels supported and motivated.
